Big congrats to my students Keely Elizabeth Southwick and Patty O'Brian on their successful schooling show at Hearthstone Riding Stables!
It was Keely's first show with her new horse, Mya, and they rocked their Traning Level Test 3 with a 71% earning the HDS High Point for Adult Amateur!! It was Patty's first ever dressage show (!!) and she and her horse, Cinco, did a great job earning a 60.9% on their Training Level Test 1! Great job ladies!
Thanks to Moonfyre Photography for the great pictures, and to Hearthstone Riding Stables for a great show!

Had a very fun day with my students today! We did things a little differently than normal today. We all got together and had a session off-horse in the morning. Some of the activities included looking at some videos and then having some practice 'riding' with students acting as horses! After lunch students partnered up and created, then rode, their own pas de deux. It was a super day and I think everyone learned a lot and had a super time! My students are the best and I'm so glad they were willing to think outside the box with me today! It made for a fun, memorable day for all!

Super successful schooling show today at Hearthstone Riding Stables! Very proud of my students!! Kate on her new horse, Margenta, showed in her very first dressage show and did remarkably well, winning the HDS High Point Medal for her Intro C test, and the HDS High Point Ribbon for her Training Level test, with a score of 71.5%. Great job! And, my student Emma, who showed Kathleen Bowen's lovely mare, Fanta, in Training Level Test 2 and Training Level Test 3, with scores in the high 60s, won the Hearthstone High Point Award! This was Emma's first show with me, and with Fanta as well. Great job! Very proud!

Showed Fanta, the spotted Princess, owned by Kathleen Bowen, at the Hearthstone Riding Stables Schooling Show. Rode Second Level Test 1 and earned a 62%. I'm very proud of the Princess, she tried very hard and I'm glad we were able to make Kathleen proud!

Regional Championship time again. Devon qualified for First Level on Money. She got a 67.8% and was 4th (of 24 I believe, it was a large class!) in the SWDC class against some very nice horses and riders- tough competition! And, drumroll please, she got an 8 on rider position!! Woohoo!!!!! Devon also rode a Second Level test and had a great ride - 65% and a blue ribbon!! Way to go Devon!

Attended the Technical Large Animal Emergency Rescue (TLAER) training class Monday and Tuesday (held at Sam Houston Race Park) and it was really informative. The instructor, Dr. Rebecca Gimenez, was great. She managed to inject humor without diminishing the importance of the topics at hand. One great thing I learned, that I think all of us horse people need to do, is to keep a limited power of attorney and directive to emergency personnel in our trailers in case of an accident that renders us unconscious or otherwise incapable of making decisions for our horses. You can find links to these forms at www.usrider.org. You can find more about TLAER at www.tlaer.org.

Yay!! Had a successful show with my highest score being a 69.5%, and I earned scores for USDF Silver Medal! Had lots of support, but a special thanks to Thermscan Diagnostics for sponsoring me, and a big thanks to Shelley S. for allowing me to show her sweet boy, Caramello. Shelley also had to take time out to trailer, lost some rides on her horse (so I could prepare), and the list goes on. Thanks so much!
Another thanks must go to Richard Howard who helped me warm up the first day of the show and gave a great clinic before the show. In the clinic I rode Caramello and also Fanta and both rides were great. And, really exciting, Richard helped me get a flying change on Fanta!! Woohoo!
Devon had a good ride Sunday earning a 61% at second level, and had to scratch the Monday ride due to really, really bad weather. Congrats on the 61%!

Been having a great year so far. Recently we've had some great clinics at Hearthstone and my students have really done well. Happy to report that I have been sponsored by Thermscan Diagnostics to show at the Memorial Day show and, fingers crossed, get my 4th level scores so I can get my silver medal.
Lots of work to be done this month as I prepare to show again- its been a while!

As 2013 draws to a close I find myself reflecting on the past year. I am so thankful for all my great students and excited to continue on the journey with them into 2014. I am so proud of all my students’ achievements this past year. And, yes, that means all of my students! I am, of course, proud of my students who have been out there showing –whether they get ribbons or not (!), but achievements don’t have to always be medals or ribbons. An achievement can be finding the right horse, or learning about how to care for your horse. Or it can be that “aha!” moment in a lesson when you finally feel and understand what you’ve been trying to accomplish. It can also be that quiet determination at the end of that day to come back and try again. Whatever it may have been, all of my wonderful students have accomplished something this year and I am proud to have been able to share that with them. Best wishes for continued success in 2014, I’m looking forward to sharing it! Happy New Year!

Championships - Devon qualified for Championships at Training Level this year and had a successful show. She earned a Second Place for SWDC with a score of 65.3%. Her GAIG test had a little hiccup when she went off course, but she still earned a score of 63.1% even with the deductions! Way to go Devon!

HDS Spring Show - This show was a great learning experience for both my students that participated. Stacia and Devon both got to learn more about how their respective horses react and perform in a show environment, and how to deal with issues that arise - like the big storm that rolled through on Saturday and horses not wanting to go home when the show was over! It was good experience for all and they still walked away with some nice scores too! Stacia's highest score of the weekend was 66% on Training Level Test 3- way to go! Stacia rode well and did a great job maintaining her super attitude all weekend even with the weather and arena changes. Devon had a successful show as well, with a 63.75% and a 65% on her Training Level Test 1 rides. It was a great experience for her, not only the good rides, but learning more about Money, and learning about showing in general. Super job ladies!
Hearthstone Riding Stables Schooling Show- We just had HRS's second schooling show of the year, despite the storms preceding it, and it was great! It was a nice, laid-back show. Everyone dealt well with the limited warm up space (we had to move the show to the indoor because of all the rain) and the show went off without a hitch. The judge really took her time and gave lots of great comments in each test. And we had great volunteers too! Jenn B. competed and did a great job at her second-ever show, earning scores of 68% and 71% at Intro. Devon did well on Money as well, showing Training Level Test 3 for the first time and getting a 63%. Devon captured the HDS High Point ribbon and the HRS High Point award as well. Jerry also competed, multi-tasker that she is!, at Third Level Test 3, earning a 63%!! Amazing job everyone! Great show!

We just had our first schooling show of 2013 at HRS yesterday and it was a great success. We had riders showing Intro through 3rd level, with a couple Freestyles and a couple Prix Caprilli tests as well. My student, Devon, competed Training Level Test 1 and received a 68% and was awarded the HDS High Point ribbon for Adult Amateurs. If she wasn't hooked on dressage before, I bet she is now! Super job, Devon!

Survived another Hans Biss clinic at Hearthstone! Ha! Was able to ride Caramello twice and we got to work on, among other things, pirouettes and changes - we even did some one-tempi's!! Woohoo! Caramello is such a wonderful, sweet horse! I love him! One of my students rode with Hans for the first time this weekend and she survived too! Brave, brave girl! Ha! She
had a good ride too, and did a really good job! I think we're getting her hooked on dressage!

January 2013
I competed at Prix St. Georges for the first time in January, on Shelley Severson's horse, Caramello, and was quite successful with scores of 62.362% and 63.553%. I also had a couple of my students at the show, showing their horses for the first time as well, and the trip was successful for all. Kathleen and Fanta had a great showing at Training Level, she had great scores all weekend and finished out the show with a score of 66.60% on her last Training Level Test 2 ride. It was good for her to realize that she can do it- and do it well!! Good job Kathleen! It was Stacia and Charmers first time out as well and the practice rides were beautiful, Charmer was calm and relaxed and through- we were all so proud of both of them. Unfortunately, in the warm up before their test, a horse got loose and ran right by the arena and Charmer got a little revved up by this and lost some of his relaxation and focus. But Stacia kept on going and got Charmer through the test and got the first show under their belts! Way to go! Everyone from Hearthstone Riding Stables had a successful show and overcame obstacles- from show nerves to learning how to deal with the unexpected. Good job everyone!
